*WARNING: THESE CAPES WERE NOT MEANT TO BE WASHED IN THE WASHER. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE ONE TO BE ABLE TO WASH, YOU CAN CLICK HERE*
CAPE MATERIALS
-An old bed sheet (full or queen should be enough to make 8 capes)
-Glue (children use Elmers and/or adults can use something stronger like E600)
-Scissors
-Velcro stickers (The dollar store should have an 8 pack for $1)
Decorate with:
-Felt stickers of different shapes
-Foam of different shapes
-Buttons and sequence
-Shiny fabric to cut out letters
-Hard felt to cut out thunderbolt shapes
STEPS
1. Cut bed sheet into 8 squares (you should have enough material to make at least 8 capes). The short side with the frayed edges will be where you will cut for the head.
2. Use a paper plate to trace a semi-circle on the side where you will have your head. On the ends of that side, place a set of Velcro sticker on each side.
3. Find shiny fabric to cut out letters. If you use E600 to glue this onto the bed sheet, it will stay on better. Wait until it is completely dry.
4. Let the kids decorate with the different materials and stickers!
5. Let it completely dry and take a picture! (Look at the next directions to set up your superhero city!)
SUPERHERO CITY MATERIALS
-Boxes of different shapes
-Tissue paper, white paper, or old wallpaper
-Construction Paper
-Stapler
-Tape
-Newspaper
-Scissors
-Blue bed sheet or carpet
STEPS
1. Wrap the boxes in white paper. I used old wallpaper and turned it inside out where the white part was showing. It was definitely strong material! Use tape and staples to secure the paper onto the box. Combine 2 boxes for a "taller" skyscraper!
2. Cut out squares from construction paper to make the building windows and doors.
3. Create a cloud by cutting out a cloud shape from your white paper material. Staple all the sides except for one and stuff it with newspaper. Once it is stuffed, staple it closed.
4. You are now ready to take a picture! Set up your city in a blue background (either a blue sheet or carpet). Leave space between your buildings and the cloud so your child can do their superhero pose in the middle. Stand on a high point (like a chair) and click!
